Community Connector

A new job opportunity at Sunrise Center! We are looking for a Community Connector, i.e., a person who has attended and enjoyed many programs at Sunrise Center, who would like to attend more, and who would call people on our mailing list to inform them about upcoming programs and events. We have had a strong community for thirty years and want to continue it as such. In addition to telephone skills and familiarity with our shows, we would like someone with at least moderate computer skills.

Courses we have sponsored include topics such as brain health, peptides, UFOs, green living, near-death experiences, endangered animals like bonobos, whales and dolphins, election integrity, plastic contamination, ocean health, microplastics, cardiovascular health, women’s hormonal health, and others. Our menu of courses is always changing. Some will have a commission connected with them, especially Lori’s courses in Embodied Compassionate Communication. Please see the description below for the moderate computer and phone skills required for this position.

Please call or text Lori for additional information about this job: 415-847-5950. You can also call Sunrise Center Mobile: 415-515-3134. If Lori is not available, please leave a message. She will pass your information along to the rest of the team who will dialogue with you.

With both caring and excitement,
Lori

Technical Skills Required

Here is what “moderate computer skills” means for this job. You do not need a computer background. You need to be comfortable with a smartphone and willing to learn the tools below, because we will teach you every one of them. You will also learn to use Claude, alongside our other tools, so our brand messaging stays consistent and keeps flowing across every post, call and text.

What we need is a human voice on the phone, a real text from a real person, and a Facebook post written by someone who was in the room. We want a person on the Sunrise Center mobile phone. You will carry the team mobile phone, keep our Facebook page alive, and turn the decisions made on our Zoom calls into action the same day. One conversation at a time.

What You Will Do

  • Carry the team mobile phone during working hours and answer it like it matters, because it does. You will also answer the landlines.
  • When we have classes to promote, call people on our mailing list who are interested in that topic, one-to-one. You may follow our suggested script and let yourself be natural.
  • Text people one-to-one, by hand. Not a blast, not a template fired at a list. A message to one person, from you.
  • Draft posts for our Facebook page on time, every time. You write the post and pick the photo, then send the rough draft to the team for approval before it goes live.
  • Create social posts in a timely manner as shows, classes and news come up, so nothing we do goes unannounced. Same rule: draft first, get sign-off, then publish.
  • Join our Zoom calls. You are paid to be on the call. Take the directives that come out of it and execute on them. Share your opinions too. When the call ends, the work starts.
  • Write and edit in Google Docs. Scripts, post drafts, call notes and follow-up lists all live there. Keep them up to date.
  • Work in Slack instead of email. Quick messages, quick answers, everything in one place where the team can see it. All of us together!
  • Learn Claude and use it with our other tools to keep our brand messaging consistent and flowing.
  • Keep a simple record of who you reached, what they said, and whether or not they are signing up.

Who You Report To

You report to the team. Any one of them can approve your work, and nothing goes public until one of them has signed off on the rough draft. This is not a job you do on your own without oversight. You get an assignment, you draft it, you get it approved, you ship it.

  • Every draft goes to one team approver, not a committee. Pick one and wait for their answer.
  • Make sure the person who will approve it is available.
  • A social post should take an hour, not a day. If a task is dragging, say so, and it may be reassigned.
  • Every email or text we publish gets looked at on a phone before it gets approved, because that is where most of our community reads it.
  • Follow the script, follow the brand, follow the directive. The creative freedom in this job is in how you talk to people, not in redesigning our look.

Internet Skills

One tool is required. The rest are recommended, and we will teach them.

ToolRequired or RecommendedWhat You Use It For
Slack and other messengersRequiredAll team communication. The team does not use email. Slack is both encrypted and fast.
WordPressRecommendedPosting updates and events to the website
Google Docs and DriveRecommendedScripts, post drafts, call notes, follow-up lists
ClaudeRecommendedDrafting posts and texts so our brand messaging stays consistent

A note on email: Lori and other staff use email, and the team does not. Your role will be on the messenger side, in Slack with the team, so that nothing waits in an inbox.

Who You Are

You like people, and people can tell. You are comfortable talking to a stranger on the phone and comfortable sending a text to someone you have never met. You can follow a script without sounding like you are reading one.

You are coachable. You listen well. Some training in listening is available and always worthwhile. You take direction well, you ask when you are not sure, and when someone shows you a better way you use it. You do not need much computer experience. If you can use a smartphone, we can teach you Facebook, Google Docs, Slack and Zoom in your first two weeks.

You are reliable with time. When a post needs to go out today, it goes out today. If a problem develops, you immediately call one of the three people on the team. When a Zoom call hands you a task, it gets done. If you have problems with it or do not agree with it, you discuss it. Otherwise, you keep your word to the team and to the people you reach.

You can write a clear sentence. Nothing fancy. A post that says what is happening, when, and why someone should come.

This is an in-person job. You will be present at the physical Sunrise Center in Corte Madera. Living close to 645 Tamalpais Drive in Corte Madera, within a 45-minute to one-hour drive, is important to us.

Why This Role Exists

Our bulk systems already run. Emails go out on schedule, autoresponders answer the first question, and the calendar fills itself. None of that replaces a person. A call from a human gets picked up. A text from a human gets answered. A post written by someone who knows the community gets shared.

This role is the human layer on top of everything automated. One person, reaching people one at a time, so nobody in our community feels like a number on a list.

How to Apply for the Community Connector Position

Send us a short note about yourself and one example of a time you reached out to someone and it made a difference. A paragraph is plenty.

If you prefer to talk, call or text Lori instead, and leave a voicemail if she does not answer. We are hiring for the phone, so a voice works just as well as a letter.

Call or text Lori: 415-847-5950

or call Sunrise Center Mobile: 415-515-3134

Send your paragraph to lori@lorigrace.org and ritch@sunrisecenter.org.
