Sunrise Center and TrustVote.org will be co-presenting on the upcoming risks to election integrity for the 2020 election and what we can do to reduce these risks and increase the likelihood of an honest election.
Elections in the US are plagued by voter suppression, electronic vote flipping, gerrymandering, and the illegal destruction of election records, which combined have generated an immense epidemic of cynicism that keeps nearly a majority of voters-107 million (44%) of them -away from the polls. (When these numbers are figured in, Trump won with 26% of the vote, to Hillary’s 27%.)
Our panel is going to be joined by Attorney Bill Risner, Senior computer analyst and Journalist Steven Rosenfield in addition to our regular board TrustVote.org board members, Attorney Bob Fitrakis, John Brakey and Lori Grace. Our presentation will include extensive reports from the field by these people who have been making progress, through either lawsuits or journal articles, in explaining and defending the integrity of digital ballot images. Bill Risner, John Brakey and Bob Fitrakis have discovered that in many states these images have been illegally destroyed, to coverup stolen elections in some states.
Buckminster Fuller, an American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist, said: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” Someone did, and certain registrars are trying to prevent it from proliferating and being used!
It is now time to fully implement an existing system that creates digital images of each ballot cast. This solution can restore voter confidence that their vote is being counted as they intend. This solution would include a system that is completely transparent, with a clean and open chain of custody, trackable with checks and balances, a system of public verification, with audits utilizing Ballot Image Audits (BIAs) and Risk-Limiting Audits (RLAs).
Ballot images are produced in most states, and the number is increasing. In this age of digital ballot images, election integrity activists have found that it’s easier to prevent a stolen election than to catch one. So their chief strategy as they will report on this year’s panel is to make elections transparent, trackable and publicly verifiable-and chip away at that epidemic of cynicism by being proactive, not reactive. Under the banner of AUDIT-USA, and led by indefatigable 15-year EI veteran activist John Brakey, Bill, Risner and attorney Chris Sauter have been traveling the country investigating and litigating elections and educating the public about the process. They will be present together with colleague Bob Fitrakis, Ph.D., JD from Ohio, well known election journalist Steven Rosenfield and Lori Grace M.A.who first brought national attention to ballot images, first used in Humboldt county in 2010.
We will be discussing what we can do to ensure a more honest election as part of a live-streamed panel at Sunrise Center. The audience will have a chance to ask questions. Some of the topics that will be discussed will include saving ballot images of votes so that recounts can happen easily, the status of risk-limiting audits, and the possibility of having hand-marked paper ballots in every state with ballot images.
Members of the public who are present at Sunrise Center will be first in line to ask questions of the panel. Some of you who plan to devote much of your time during the next year seeking to enhance the integrity of our next presidential election are invited to come afterward to an active discussion on this topic that will happen either Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
