Lakota People’s Law Project cordially invites you to an exclusive, one-time only gathering with our lead counsel, Chase Iron Eyes, and chief counsel, Daniel Sheehan.
At this very special event, Chase and Danny will share their compelling narratives and timely perspectives. In the coming months, Chase’s legal case, and those of other water protectors falsely charged with crimes at Standing Rock, will expose the collusion of the government with the fossil fuel industry and militarized private security intent on silencing the people and exploiting the Earth for the sake of profit.
In the spring of 2016, a movement was born at Standing Rock. When the Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) was rerouted to the reservation, Lakota grandmothers stood up and said, “No. We must protect the future of our children. Mni Wiconi-Water is Life.” The eyes of the world turned to middle America as concerned demonstrators arrived, filled camps, sang around ritual fires, were attacked, were arrested, were thrown in jail. Now, as the oil flows under Lake Oahe as a result of the Trump administration’s fast-tracking of the pipeline’s environmental review, hundreds — including Chase — face false charges and jail time.
We hope you’ll join Chase and Danny for what promises to be a an exceptional evening.

Daniel Sheehan is a Harvard College, Harvard Law School and Harvard Divinity School-trained constitutional litigator and appellate attorney. Danny formed the Lakota People’s Law Project in 2004 to advocate for the nine tribes of the Great Sioux Nation, and to combat injustice in the Dakotas. For five decades, Danny’s work as a federal civil rights attorney, renowned author and public speaker, and college and law school educator has exposed the structural sources of injustice in our country and around the world.
Danny’s dedication has placed him at the center of many of the most important legal cases and social movements of our time. From the Pentagon Papers to Three Mile Island, from voter registration to police corruption, from Silkwood v. Kerr-McGee Nuclear Corporation to the Iran-Contra affair, Danny has fearlessly and consistently tackled the most pressing issues facing our nation and our world. Danny’s lifetime of experience and perspective lends him a peerless ability to hold a room and provoke thoughtful discussion.
Chase Iron Eyes is a lifelong enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who stood on the front lines of the fight against DAPL. Targeted by militarized private security in league with law enforcement, he now faces ten years in federal prison if convicted for a pair of felonies falsely levied against him.
The 2016 Democratic candidate for North Dakota’s congressional seat, Chase has dedicated himself to ending Native marginalization. He holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and American Indian studies from the University of North Dakota, and a Juris Doctor of Law degree with an emphasis in Federal Indian Law from the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law. He currently serves as Lakota People’s Law Project Lead Counsel. Chase lives with his wife and three children on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
