We hold events and classes at Hale Akua, Maui, Hawaii.
Sunrise Center was created in 1976 as a California educational nonprofit In 2007, Sunrise Center, known on Maui as Launa I’O Eco-Education Center, became the leaseholder of Hale Akua Garden Farm which we refer to as Hale Akua. At the request of Maui County it became a retreat center with an agricultural focus. Then, in 2017 Maui County officially allowed Sunrise Center to hold retreats of any sort dealing with health, wellness, good communication and relationship skills in addition to agricultural topics like permaculture, beekeeping and biochar production, etc.
Hale Akua Garden Farm, which is its more well-known name on Maui, now allows group leaders to rent the premises for their own retreats.

Hale Akua is also becoming a community event center when available between retreats. When people rent a room at Hale Akua directly through our website or via Airbnb or Vrbo they can participate in weekly programs and special short programs which can be found at Hale Akua’s website under the title, Our Events. Creating more local programs to participate in is a true delight to Hale Akua owner, Lori Grace, as well as to quite a few of our neighbors.
